Creator shows enter the film-festival circuit

YouTube premiered five creator-led projects across the Toronto International Film Festival and Venice International Film Festival.

The premieres included Mark Vins’ feature-length Galápagos documentary Reef to Ridge, new episodes of Ziwe’s You’d Be an Iconic Guest, The Last Day of Ramadan and The Mad Honey of the Himalayas.

The Toronto premieres will subsequently reach open audiences through YouTube.

Logical assumption: The launch window for creator entertainment now includes cultural institutions. A show can earn festival attention first and open distribution second.

$400 million is moving toward creator-owned businesses

Steven.com and Authentic Brands Group launched OBSN, a new venture designed to build creator-led media companies and brands.

The partnership combines audience development, media, technology and data with product development, licensing, strategic partnerships and global distribution.

OBSN plans to invest up to $400 million in creator businesses over the coming years.

Logical assumption: Creator audiences are becoming the foundations of companies and intellectual property. The opportunity around a successful creator now includes property development, ownership, licensing, commerce and long-term distribution.

Perplexity wants creators to build with the product

Perplexity has filled a creator-marketing leadership role overseeing partnerships with hundreds of creators and multimillion-dollar budgets.

The brief reportedly includes programs involving more than 100 creators, responsibility for conversion and reviews of original “builds” made with Perplexity’s product.

The creator is being asked to demonstrate what the technology makes possible through something people want to watch.

Logical assumption: The strongest creator partnerships give the product something consequential to do. Its capability becomes part of the entertainment and the outcome.

AI discoverability enters the creator media kit

Creators and their representatives are beginning to include appearances in AI-generated answers within pitches to brands.

Deloitte Digital is advising creator companies on discoverability. IZEA is incorporating creator influence on AI answers into program proposals. Brands are asking which creators already appear in LLM results.

The measurement is still developing, but discoverability is becoming part of how creator value is sold.

Logical assumption: Creator programming can shape how a brand is understood by people and machines. Searchable episodes, accurate transcripts and useful supporting material are becoming part of the value of the program.
